Is Roti Safe for Dogs?

Chapatis are a traditional food that is frequently prepared in Indian homes. It can be used as a quick filler or as a main course with a side dish, serving as the foundation of diets. Some people have been giving their dog or cat roti for years without experiencing any issues. Although it turned out in their favour, it could have easily gone the other way.

Even though chapati and roti aren’t considered toxic to dogs, there isn’t much of a reason to give them these flatbreads as a regular food source. However, it is high in protein and carbohydrates. Dogs require sugar in the form of carbohydrates, which are then converted into glucose, but they should only be given foods that are free of gluten.

Because of this, the gluten found in roti, biscuits, etc., will go undigested and cause the dog’s digestion to be less effective. A dog’s gluten sensitivity is enough to cause digestive problems, sometimes even harmful to the pup’s general health, and to wreak havoc in its gut.

Symptoms of canine gluten allergies include:

  • Intestinal inflammation.
  • Stomach issues.
  • Bumps, rashes, and dry, flaky skin.
  • Extreme scratching.
  • Loss of weight.
  • Persistent ear infection.
  • Inflamed Paw pads.

The severity of the harm that gluten causes outweighs the benefits of the protein it contains. Your dog friend requires a diet that is appropriate for their species and is based on meat, as well as supplements of fruits and vegetables that will help them get the complete nutrition they need.
